A Stuart, Florida hospital recently made procedural changes after an elderly woman died last week while awaiting treatment in the hospital's emergency room. Dorothy Cooper, 88, was left unattended in her wheelchair for four hours at Martin Memorial Medical Center. She later died. A hospital spokesperson told investigators that as a result of the incident, emergency room staff members now monitor patients at busy times and alert doctors if a patient's condition deteriorates. Hospital officials admitted that the previous emergency room protocol was flawed.
