A Florida orthopedic surgeon faces a sixty-three count complaint alleging that he improperly treated, tested, and billed patients from 1991 to 1994. Similar allegations against Dr. Alfred Bonati were dropped last January after the Florida Board of Medicine found new information to pursue. A spokesperson for the board said the new evidence reveals a "systematic abuse of patients through (the) exercise of influence (and) exploitation." The 127-page complaint alleges Dr. Bonati operated on the wrong side of several patients' spines and financially exploited patients at his Gulf Coast Orthopedic Center in Hudson, Florida.
