A New York man arrested in September on air rage allegations pled guilty last week to one charge of interfering with a flight crew. Manuel Soto, 48, was traveling from New York City to Tampa aboard a US Airways jet when he was caught smoking in the lavatory. A confrontation ensued and Soto became agitated when told he could not smoke. Soto was detained by two off-duty police officers who happened to be on the flight.
Witnesses reported that Soto threatened to kill the officers and announced that the plane was going to crash. He was detained upon arrival in Tampa. Soto, who tested positive for cocaine, admitted to interfering with the crew but maintains that he did not threaten or assault anyone.
