Canada's healthcare regulatory agency has initiated a recall of several products that contain ephedra, an herb added to many performance-enhancing supplements and weight-loss products. A recent study found that Ephedra, which Canadian health officials describe as a "serious health risk," causes insomnia, nervousness, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, heart attack, seizure, stroke, and even death. Health officials have requested that manufactures, distributors, and importers of the herb recall their products immediately. In addition, Canadian Customs plans to crack down on the importation of ephedra. Canadian officials say that over sixty people have fallen seriously ill after taking ephedra-laden products within the last seven months alone.
