The family of Korey Stringer, the Minnesota Vikings offensive lineman who died from heatstroke last August during an afternoon practice, today filed a $100 million lawsuit against the team and several coaches including former head coach Dennis Green and current head coach Mike Tice. The suit alleges coaches forced Stringer to continue practicing after he became ill and failed to provide medical assistance in a timely manner. His body temperature rose to nearly 109 degrees before his death. The suit claims that Tice, then the Vikings offensive-line coach, taunted Stringer during practice by calling him a "big baby."
The Vikings vehemently deny any wrongdoing or responsibility for Stringer's death. After an investigation in November, health department officials cleared the team of any safety violations.
