Class-Action Lawsuit Filed Against Osama bin Laden

February 20, 2002

Seven families of victims who perished in the September 11 terrorist attacks have filed a class-action lawsuit against Osama bin Laden, his al-Qaeda terrorist network and the Taliban on behalf of all those killed in the tragedy. Hoping to financially ruin bin Laden's terrorist organization, the lawsuit seeks $1 billion in compensatory damages and $100 billion in punitive damages.

The plaintiffs have asked the court to award damages that will ensure the terrorists are unable to financially support more terrorist attacks. Over 140 institutions and individuals linked to terrorism have also been named in the lawsuit.
