A Brooklyn, New York jury has ordered a doctor to pay $26 million to an infant who suffered permanent injuries when the physician failed to properly perform a Cesarean section. On October 20, 1996, Solomon Rolnitzky, now 5, was born with his umbilical cord wrapped around his head. According to witnesses, he appeared "lifeless and limp."
The lawsuit claimed Dr. Arie Schwartz of Boro Park Obstetrics & Gynecology failed to recognize the boy's plummeting heart rate an hour before his delivery. Rolnitzky's brain was oxygen-starved. He can now "barely talk or walk."
