Department of Transportation Investigating FAA

A former employee of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) revealed this week that the FAA covered up airport security shortfalls for several years. Bogdan Dzakovic worked on a FAA team that tested security at numerous airports across the country. The team's objective was to get weapons and explosives past airport checkpoints. Dzakovic claims screeners often failed the tests.
According to the whistle-blower, the FAA failed to improve the areas where security lacked and was consistently slow to take action in matters of airport protection. The Department of Transportation (DOT) is currently investigating the claims. Their findings will be forwarded to the White House. After the September 11 tragedy, Congress divested the FAA and the airlines of their roles in airport security.
