A woman who was severely injured when a garbage truck ran over her at a rest stop in Ashland, Virginia recently settled a lawsuit with the truck's owner for $2 million. Gloria Hodges, a long-distance truck driver at the time of the accident, suffered a knee injury and a broken pelvis. Most seriously, the skin of her right leg was stripped off, known as "degloving" by physicians. Hodges required extensive skin grafts to replace the skin. According to witnesses and several newspaper articles on car accidents, the American Environmental Waste Transportation truck backed into Hodges as she crossed the rest stop's parking lot, hitting her from behind.
