A St. Louis jury recently awarded $5 million to a woman who suffered severe injuries because of improper hospital care. In March 1997, after fracturing her jaw in an automobile accident, Carla Suzanne Jennings was taken to Parkland Health Center. She alleged that emergency room technicians failed to properly reevaluate her condition after she suffered dizzy spells and began vomiting.
Jennings argued that she was instead released from the hospital without further analysis or the availability of a wheelchair. While leaving Parkland, she lost consciousness and fell, fracturing her skull.
