A Florida jury awarded $9.5 million last week to a man who was left a quadriplegic after a horrific car accident. In June 2000, David Medlin, 25, was a passenger in a car that overturned when driver Brandy Dickson lost control of the vehicle along State Road 60 east of Lake Wales.
Medlin sued Dickson and her mother, Fawn Dickson, who owned the car. The $9.5 million award, which was reduced from $11.1 million because jurors determined Medlin was negligent for not wearing a seatbelt, is believed to be one of the largest personal injury verdicts in Polk County history.
