U.S. Postal Service Agrees to $1.76 Million Settlement in Tractor-Trailer Case

January 28, 2003

The family of a Virginia woman killed in an automobile accident recently settled its claim with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) for $1.76 million. Carla Bridget Cox-McCoy, 33, was driving her pickup truck eastbound on Interstate 64 in Henrico County on August 3, 2001 when a USPS tractor-trailer heading westbound crossed the median and slammed into her vehicle. McCoy died about two hours later from injuries she sustained in the accident. Plaintiff attorneys alleged the driver of the USPS truck fell asleep at the wheel. The settlement was reached before attorneys filed suit in federal court.
