A recent KLM flight from Amsterdam to Newark, NJ was full of surprises. A passenger endangered all the passengers on the flight when he tried to open an emergency door in the middle of the flight almost 6 miles above the Atlantic Ocean. When the passenger first got on the plane, he showed a coach ticket but then sat in the business class section after stating that his claustrophobia allowed him to upgrade. He walked around the cabin burning a lighter, and pointing a walking stick at people while making gun noises. He pulled out his cell phone and tried to make some calls despite the flight attendants' demands that he turn the phone off. He then tried to open one of the plane's emergency doors but failed because of the extreme difference in pressure between the outside air and the cabin's air pressure.
When the passenger was presented a notice that he was violating air laws, he ripped it up along with photos and pages of his passport. He was finally subdued by other passengers, placed in plastic handcuffs, and kept in the galley of the plane for the remainder of the flight.
