The State of Florida held more disciplinary hearings against doctors this year than ever before. A record 295 disciplinary actions were taken compared with 163 such actions the previous year. Most doctors were disciplined for minor offenses such as failing to fulfill their continuing education requirements, refusing to release patient records, and practicing with expired licenses.
The disciplinary process can range from a simple citation to a full administrative hearing. Florida ranked third among states that disciplined doctors, up from twelfth place in 1998.
