Pembroke Pines, Florida drivers who regularly travel through the intersection of Pines Boulevard and Flamingo Road, deemed by State Farm Insurance to be the most dangerous intersection in the United States, may soon see additional safety features. City officials, in response to the State Farm report, have requested a study of the intersection to see what modifications are necessary.
TEI, an engineering and planning firm, was hired by the city to review "each and every crash report" as well as to determine the volume of traffic carried by the intersection. Early reports estimate that 90,000 cars pass through the intersection each day.
TEI researchers will analyze data to determine if changes such as repositioning traffic signals, making stoplight colors brighter, and resurfacing the intersection will improve safety.
