Mosquito Coils

Mosquito coils are mainly used as a defense against disease-bearing mosquitoes. Containing an insecticide as well as a fungicide and dyes, coils are burnt indoors and outdoors and are used by millions across East Asia as well as in the United States. A report in the September 2003 issue of the journal Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP) reveals that many Chinese-made mosquito coils purchased in the United States contain a banned toxic substance. Researchers discovered that many coils contain octachlorodipropyl ether, known as S-2, and may expose people to bis (chloromethyl) ether (BCME), a lung carcinogen. Sale of any product containing these substances is illegal in the United States but investigators believe they still find their way into the country because of the threat of mosquito-borne diseases such as West Nile virus.

If you have been injured by a mosquito coil, it may be important to contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be time limits within which you must commence suit.
