Goodyear Entran II Heating Hoses
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is paying out millions over defective hoses installed in home heating systems. According to complaints, Entran II rubber hoses, produced and sold from 1989 to 1994, easily crack and decompose allowing water and glycol fluid to leak into homes and basements. Homeowners reportedly lost thousands of dollars when entire heating systems were ruined as a result.
The heating hoses were a component in heating systems made by Heatway Radiant Floors & Snowmelting of Missouri and were sold nationwide. Goodyear blames Heatway for improperly designing the heating systems and Heatway installers for the improper installation and inspection of the hoses. Heatway filed for bankruptcy in 2000, leaving Goodyear to face the majority of claims.
In October 2003, Goodyear agreed to pay up to $236 million to settle a class-action lawsuit filed over the hoses. The settlement covered purchasers in 44 states and Canada. A second class-action lawsuit covering six New England states is still pending.
The product may also be known as Twintrace, Nytrace, Entran II Trace, Entran II Wire, Entran 2, Entran 2 Trace or Entran 2 Wire.
