Head-On Collision With Another Vehicle
A head-on collision between two vehicles (see also head-on collision with object) can result in extensive property damage, critical injuries and fatalities. This type of head-on collision occurs when two moving vehicles, traveling in opposite directions, collide front bumper to front bumper. Such a collision typically occurs when one vehicle crosses a highway median or proceeds the wrong way down a one-way street. Generally, the frontal impact collision is the most serious type of automobile accident, however, when the frontal impact occurs between two vehicles (as opposed to a frontal impact collision between a vehicle and a stationary object such as a pole, tree, or concrete wall), some of the force of the collision may be absorbed by the vehicles themselves as they "crumple" upon impact. A quality vehicle may sustain extreme damage in these types of collisions due to this crumpling effect, however, the ability of the vehicle to compress helps to prevent infliction of more serious injuries to the occupants.
