Scooters: Overview

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) over 40,000 children were taken to hospital emergency rooms last year due to both motorized and self-propelled scooter accidents. While many of the injuries were caused by improper scooter operation, some of the scooters themselves were defective.

In December 2000 the CPSC announced the recall of approximately 80,000 Excite Super Speeder II and Viper scooters after reports of finger injuries caused by a defective handlebar design. One child even required a partial finger amputation. In addition over 90,000 Kent Kickin' Mini-Scooters and 7,000 Kash 'N Gold Racer X20 Scooters were recalled after the agency learned of broken bones, bruises, abrasions and a cracked tooth because of a faulty handlebar design and joint system.

If your child has been seriously injured by a scooter of any kind, it may be important for you to contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be time limits within which you must commence suit.
