Beauty & Personal Hygiene Products: Overview
Many beauty, personal hygiene and cosmetic products are regulated by the Federal government under the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act as well as the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act. The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) overseas much of this regulation. These laws allow the FDA to regulate products that have already been produced. This policy is in contrast to the FDA's role in monitoring and approving pharmaceutical drugs. While cosmetics and other similar products do not carry as many of the dangerous side effects associated with pharmaceutical drugs, they can still be quite harmful if defectively manufactured, designed or used.
