Vitamin C: Overview

Vitamin C is used by the body to heal wounds, process carbohydrates, fats, and protein, and to fortify blood vessels. A lack of Vitamin C can cause scurvy and other medical conditions.

Many people supplement their regular dietary intake of Vitamin C with over-the-counter dietary supplements. For years, Vitamin C supplements have been touted as preventative shields against various infections, including the common cold. Recently, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania discovered that elevated levels of Vitamin C may damage human DNA. Such damage may increase the risk of developing cancer.

The researchers stress that more studies need to be conducted before a conclusive link is drawn between Vitamin C supplementation and DNA damage.

See your doctor if you have experienced serious health problems after taking Vitamin C. In addition, it may be important to contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be time limits within which you must commence suit.
