General Motors Light Truck Engines
V8 engines installed in 1999-2002 model GMC light trucks and SUVs are under investigation because of a potential design flaw that may reduce the vehicles' re-sale value. Owners allege they began hearing knocking noises in the small block engines shortly after purchasing their vehicles. Some trucks also reportedly use twice as much oil as expected. Several lawsuits have already been filed in five states over the alleged defects.
GM denies the allegations, saying they are baseless. According to the automaker, oil consumption is normal in all GMC light trucks and SUVs and knocking noises will not affect the engine's longevity. Lawsuits are currently pending in California, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan and Oklahoma.
